Eden Roc Hotel in Positano – What You Need to Know
The Hotel Eden Roc is one of my favorite hotels in Positano for 3 things mainly: the service, the balcony views and the pool.
The hotel itself has 25 rooms situated over 4 floors. It’s family owned and operated and you can usually find the owner himself in the main parts of the hotel, looking things over and making sure that guests are happy.
The staff here are superb and will go out of their way to accommodate your requests, help you book tours or airport/port transfers or help you with whatever you need.
Because the hotel is further up the hill, the views are fantastic – in every room. The rooms themselves tend to be a bit larger than standard Amalfi coast hotel rooms – although they still aren’t “American-sized” rooms.
They also tend to be newer than some other popular hotels in the area.
Location of the Eden Roc Positano:
The Eden Roc is not on the beach – in fact it’s a bit of a walk from the beach – probably about 8 – 15 minutes. So if you have problems with your knees on the stairs or walking uphill, you may want to stay somewhere else directly on the beach (like the Covo Dei Saraceni or Buca Di Bacco).
This hotel is right off the main highway road (SS163) that goes through the top of Positano from Sorrento to Amalfi, (this is not the main road running through the town itself). So if you’re driving yourself it’s ideal and much easier to find than other hotels in Positano. There’s also self and valet parking available on site.
It’s also located next to a Sita bus stop (Sita is the main bus system of the Amalfi Coast). So if you want to grab the bus to Sorrento or Amalfi for example, it’s super-easy to do from this hotel. There’s also a taxi drop-off and pickup at your doorstep which is also handy after a late night out.
So basically if you’re going to be doing a lot of driving or road travel, this is a well-located hotel. If you can’t do stairs or uphill roads – and just want to sit on the beach – this may not be the place for you.
Another benefit of this hotel is that the buffet breakfast included in your booking is one of the best in Positano. You’ll enjoy scrambled eggs, cereal, ham, cheese, savoury tarts, breads and cakes while enjoying the sumptuous sweeping views of the town.
They also bake many of their own desserts fresh and grow vegetables in the hotel’s garden.
The rooftop restaurant is definitely worth trying for dinner – with panoramic views of Positano by night.
The Pool, oh the Pool!
The pool at this hotel is a hidden gem (I still dream about lounging on the deck watching the Mediterranean below on my last visit).
You can enjoy the views, soak up the sun and have a drink from the bar. Not many hotels have pools in Positano (because of the lack of space mainly) so this is an added luxury. It’s not an enormous pool deck, but it’s sufficient and I’ve never had a problem finding a deck chair when I’ve been there.
You can also go down to the deck immediately below to grab a snack or a drink and get out of the sun for a while (but still enjoy the Mediterranean views.)
The hotel also offers daily wine tasting in the hotel if you’re looking for something to do closer to home for the day.
So Should You Stay at the Eden Roc Positano?
So what’s the bottom line on Eden Roc? Basically it has a lot of 5 star amenities (luxury pool, larger rooms, jaw-dropping views) for a 4 star price.
If you’re looking for a luxury Positano hotel that’s easy to drive to, offers romance, great food and large private balconies with sea views, it’s worth considering.
Booking Tip: For an unforgettable experience, try to getting a room with a Jacuzzi hot tub on the balcony – it’s worth it!!
