Hotel Miramare Positano Review:
If you’re looking for a hotel that’s close to both the beach and the town shops, you may want to consider the Hotel Miramare Positano. It’s a charming boutique hotel that dates back to 1870 (but a total renovation of the property was completed in March of 2010).
While it does take some stairs to get there, the location puts it very close to both the town shopping area and the main beach.
It’s a smaller hotel, consisting of 15 rooms arranged over 2 floors – so it does tend to fill up fast in peak season. Each room has a terrace or balcony with a sea view. Like many hotels in Positano, the rooms are decorated in traditional Italian style with lots of whites, blues – and terracotta tiles covering the floors.
The decorating is basic but sufficient – and the incredible terrace views out onto the water more than make up for any lack of decorating style.
Rooms also have minibars (stocked with some free items) as well as safes, phones and complimentary newspapers. Hypo-allergenic bedding is also available. Guests of the hotel can also take advantage of the Free Wifi both in their rooms and in the public areas.
Another benefit to this hotel that you don’t often find in Positano is that pets (mainly dogs) are allowed on request with no extra charges.
Parking is available at a nearby garage (no reservation is needed) for a small surcharge.
The Hotel Miramare is a bit of a challenge to find as it’s not on a main road. It’s about 150 steps down from the main road. So your best bet is to call the hotel as you’re getting into Positano and have them send a porter up to the main road (they’ll tell you exactly where) to take your bags for you.
From the hotel, it’s about another 200 steps down to the beach – which for Positano standards isn’t bad. However it might be a challenge for kids or those with mobility issues.
Location Tip: The steps going up from the hotel to the main road will bring you out near Café Positano – which is a fantastic restaurant for lunch or dinner (or mid-day ice cream) and has amazing views of the water.
The staff is available 24-7 at this hotel to help you with everything from tours, laundry, restaurant recommendations and more. They can sometimes even offer a private boat to Capri, which is a unique touch – you don’t have to arm wrestle people on the ferry to get a good seat.
If you’re looking for a smaller boutique hotel with a great location and gorgeous views (and you don’t mind walking up some stairs), you really can’t go wrong with this hotel. This hotel tends to be a guest favorite and many people go back year after year.
The views from each room are incredible and the prices (for Positano) are quite reasonable. Plus the staff will have you feeling like you’re family after the first day!
