Hotel Palazzo Murat Positano Review:
If you’ve ever wandered down the streets of Positano before, you’ve no doubt seen tons of visitors stopping to peak into what looks like an old-world garden oasis in the middle of the main pedestrian shopping area. This is the Hotel Palazzo Murat, an elegant 18th-century building surrounded by landscaped gardens.
This stunning hotel combines traditional old-world elegance with one of the best locations in Positano. The hotel is situated right in the heart of the pedestrian shopping area – central to everything including the beach, ferries, shops, restaurants and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
However because it is surrounded by lush gardens and protected behind a private wall, it’s a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of the tourist crowds.
Also – it’s very close to the beach – about 250 meters. So while you will walk a bit – you won’t have to walk up tons of stairs as you do with many of the higher-situated hotels.
The 31 air-conditioned guestrooms at this hotel all open to balconies with views of either the town or the gardens, which most people find breathtaking.
There are some rooms that offer a partial sea view, but because of the location of the hotel, you don’t get the view that the higher-up-hotels will give you.
Buffet Breakfast Included:
You can get an amazing buffet breakfast included with your booking. Breakfast is served in the private garden area every morning. There are a range of options, even gluten-free offerings and complimentary cappuccino.
One of the main features that sets this hotel apart are the gardens surrounding the hotel. Walk through lemon trees or vegetable gardens (which help supply the on-site restaurant).
Enjoy the scent of roses and jasmine – even from your room balcony. Or just kick back and relax with a good book or a great glass of wine for a few hours and enjoy the silence.
The Hotel Palazzo Murat also has it’s own pool area, sundeck and infinity pool which gives you a fantastic view of Positano and the Church. And it’s very private. The last time we were there they actually had someone on duty to ensure that no non-hotel guests entered the pool area for a looky-loo.
The staff at this hotel are extremely helpful and can provide concierge service, tour assistance and wedding services.
Additional amenities include laundry or drycleaning, airport shuttle (fee), 24-hour front desk, Luggage storage, Concierge service, Babysitting/child services, Fax/photocopying, Wake Up Service/Alarm Clock, complimentary newspapers and ticket assistance.
Parking is available for a fee at this hotel. However it is not on-site but up the hill a bit.
While the hotel advertises that parking is available, the parking is technically off-site, about a 5 minute walk away. Because the hotel is in the pedestrian area, you have to park your car on the main road above in a specific garage and then walk down.
However, because the town main road is so narrow – and one way, you want to make sure you find the parking garage the first time you drive through. Otherwise you’re stuck driving out of town and then circling back, which can be a pain. The best way to do it is to call the hotel when you’re coming into town and have them guide you to the parking garage.
Also, the rooms on the first floor can be a bit noisy. So if you tend to be a light sleeper, make sure to ask for a room higher up for better sound-proofing.
Palazzo Murat Hotel Tip:
One thing most people don’t know about this hotel that really sets it apart: In the summer this hotel offers complimentary 2 hour boat tours along the Amalfi coast for their visitors. They even stop the boat along the way so you can take a swim in the Mediterranean!
That alone is well worth staying here (as these boat tours can be very expensive). It’s a fantastic way to add a unique experience to your vacation memories.
Something else to try at this hotel? Wine-tasting. If you want to expand your wine palate, the Hotel Palazzo Murat Positano offers wine-tasting classes to their customers for a very reasonable fee.
Should You Stay At the Palazzo Murat?
If you’re looking for old world elegance in a gorgeous garden oasis – situated in the heart of Positano – then the Palazzo Murat is the ultimate choice.
While it doesn’t have the higher-up sea views of some Positano hotels, it does give you some incredible benefits that you don’t get with other places like the garden oasis, central location and bragging rights (since this hotel is very well known and well loved all over the world).
