Positano Villas Vs Hotels – What’s the Difference?

Should You Stay At A Villa or A Hotel?

If you’re planning a trip to Positano, you may be wondering if you should stay at a hotel like the Palazzo Murat or a Villa like the Palazzo Margherita.

What’s the difference? And which is better for you?

While each accommodation is slightly different from the next, there are some general differences you should know. Here they are:

#1 Space/Kitchen Area

Most Positano villas will give you more space to relax and kick around than a hotel room gives you. You’ll usually get several rooms (living/dining, several bedrooms) plus a kitchen.

So with the kitchen you have more freedom to make your own meals – you don’t have to always go out to a restaurant to eat. This is great also if you have some picky eaters – or those with allergies as you have more control over your own food.

Contrast that with a hotel room, which is usually much smaller (especially in Europe). And you don’t get your own kitchen area. Although keep in mind that, on the other hand, most hotels in Positano do have balcony rooms with some of the most stunning views you’ll ever see of the Amalfi Coast!

#2 Buffet Breakfast – Not to be Missed!

I’m a total brunch junkie, I admit. And I love the fact that most hotels in Positano do include a free breakfast buffet with your room reservation.

Depending on where you stay, there are some incredible breakfasts to be had. There’s nothing like sitting out on the terrace brunching on fresh fruit, prosciutto, eggs and a cappucino in the Italian sun to start your morning off right.

Some of the best brunches I’ve had have been at the Eden Roc, Sirenuse and Palazzo Murat.

Most villas in Positano do not offer the free breakfast option with your booking.

#3 Housekeeping

If you stay at a hotel in Positano, you’ll get housekeeping every day – with fresh towels and clean floors, bathrooms, etc. But with some Positano villas, you only get housekeeping once or twice a week (some villas will offer daily service for an extra charge).

Also note that with hotels, there is usually someone available 24 hours a day should you have a question or should you need something. Not all villas (depending on how they are run) offer this.

So those are some of the main differences between staying at a Positano villa vs a hotel. It really depends on what you want and feel most comfortable with.

Villas or apartments give you more flexibility with meals and generally more room. And, depending on the size of your party, they can actually be cheaper.

Hotels however also have advantages like better housekeeping options, staff available 24-7 and free breakfast every morning.

Whichever you choose, there’s really no way to lose since Positano is so unbelievably gorgeous. Within the first few minutes you’re here, you’ll already be relaxing and feeling your troubles slip away!
