Palazzo Margherita Positano Review:
If you’re looking to stay in a large luxurious villa in Positano, you may want to consider the Palazzo Margherita. This is a charming 19th century building near the top of the hill (a total renovation was complete on this property in February of 2014).
It’s technically on the main road that runs through the top of Positano on the way to Amalfi (SS163 – not the road that goes through the town of Positano itself). This means that the views you get are incredible.
Plus it’s easy to get to by car or taxi. And you won’t have to walk down tons of stairs carrying your bags when you get here.
There are 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments – 7 in total spread over 4 floors. The rooms are massive with high ceilings and lots of natural light which lends a very rich, old-world villa type feel to the place.
Each apartment has sea-view terraces and full kitchens with dishwasher, stovetops, full-sized refrigerators, microwaves and dishwashers. For a special treat, there are also espresso makers in the kitchen. There is also a washer/dryers for your laundry.
You also get to enjoy a satellite TV with DVD players, iPod docking stations and laptop-compatible safes in the apartments. Free Wifi is also included in your stay.
Another nice touch you don’t often get with these villas are the BBQ facilities you can use – which is great for large groups or informal get togethers.
The bathrooms in these apartments are also quite luxurious with deep soaking tubs, rainfall showerheads, bidets and designer toiletries.
Weekly maid service is included however if you prefer daily service, you can request this (additional fee).
Booking Tip: Want a special treat? Book the Mulini Suite – the 3 bedroom penthouse apartment. It takes up the entire top floor of the building, with three bedrooms (each with their own terrace and bath), a living room and kitchen. Plus you get a huge main terrace that spans the length of the villa!
As stated above, because these apartments are on the main road running through the top of Positano, they’re quite easy to get to if you’re driving. There is also a parking garage across the street that you can use (for a surcharge) which makes it a great option if you plan on doing daily car trips along the Amalfi coast.
However, on the downside, this also means it’s a bit of a walk down to the beach. There are multiple ways to get there (or to get to the main shopping area of the town). You can take several sets of stairs for a faster trip. Or you can walk down the road that winds down into the pedestrian area and eventually to the beach..
There’s also an internal bus stop near to the Palazzo Margherita you can take as well which will take you down to the beach (or back up at the end of the day).
As far as restaurants go, you are close to several popular Positano restaurants – but there’s also a great little grocery store and vegetable market just down the road a wide selection of wines, meats and cheeses, which is really handy if you prefer to make meals yourself.
If you’re looking for a spacious, luxurious villa in Positano with your own kitchen and private sprawling terrace, you’ll love the Palazzo Margherita. It’s well decorated with jaw-dropping views and fully-stocked kitchens.
While it may not be the best option if you’re planning to lounge on the beach all week, it’s a great option if you’re driving or if you just want that true “Positano Villa” experience.
